Years ago I remember watching Alena from Darling Academy’s YouTube channel and as she was ironing she said she gets all her housework/chores/less desirable work done at the beginning of the day so the rest of the day she can focus on her hobbies. That has always stuck with me.
This was my late afternoon a few days ago… some of you may remember from my video on learning new skills as a homemaker, I shared making this apron (if you’d like to watch that video click here.)
One project was adding ties to my apron I sewed back in March. My first ever major sewing project— no pattern, no video tutorial, just a vision in my head of what I wanted and hopes that it might just turn out 😂 I did like how it looked for a first hand sewn garment, but as some of you recommended on my video, a tie would help it out. I didn’t know how I wanted to do the tie until I got out the leather to do the other project…
Adding straps to this vintage bicycle basket I thrifted for $3 (here is the video of that thrift haul) to hang on the wall. My dryer was the dumping spot of seed packets, snips, and garden gloves, leaving dirt to clean up daily. So, I finally got around to cutting straps of scrap leather to hang it up on the wall, and I think it turned out pretty. The laundry room still needs a major revamp of fresh paint and new shelving, but that will come another day.
Then back to the apron, inspired by the straps on the basket, I cut two long thin pieces of veg tanned flimsy leather for my ties and hand sewn them on. I’m pretty pleased by the turn out!
I’m learning to just try things and not be afraid of it not turning out, and more things are turning out than not, so I shall carry on winging it ☺️
As Scott always encourages me- done is better than perfect!

I love the apron. I’ve trying to make one myself like that. I’m short and it’s been trial and error. You have inspired me to keep at it 😄
